First Day Out of the Box (May 2021)

Altrax folding treadmill purchased from Amazon Canada in May 2021. |
Update: August 10th, 2022
Hi all, I made a quick update with a video of the Altrax Fitness treadmill after one year of walking.
************
The journey first started when I wanted to upgrade from my manual treadmill to an electric treadmill. I wanted the ability to adjust the levels of speed.
And that took me over to Amazon Canada, where I looked around for a new treadmill.
The first issue with buying treadmills online is, I didn't know what I would do if I purchased a dud, and I had to return it.
So, I did the best I could and ended up purchasing the Altrax folding treadmill.
I start the video off by showing a quick view of the manual, then I place it on the treadmill tray, and take a look at the size of the treadmill in the upright position.
The two support rails are attached to the running deck, and then towards the top, there are two handlebars attached to the tray that also includes the LCD display. The LCD display is flush.
I cut over to a bird's-eye view of the tray and running deck, and give the supports a little bit of a wiggle to test how stable they are. I did purchase this treadmill for walking, but it is a running treadmill.
I then start up the treadmill by pushing the green start button. There is a red magnetic safety key that attaches to a rope which I attach to the tray.
The treadmill will not start unless the safety key is attached.
I gave the Altrax folding treadmill a quick test to see how loud it is. So far, it's not very loud, but I will later update this blog post as time progresses.
I did notice that while I was walking on it the tray and water bottle was shaking a little bit. I then add my laptop on top of the tray, and I noticed that the tray's surface was pretty slippery. I would not add my laptop to the tray while walking on it.
I fold up the treadmill and check to see how high the treadmill is from the ground. It sits about 6 inches or so from the ground at its highest point.
I continue to unfold the supports and add the locking knobs that they provide.
I then measure the running belt itself, it's approximately 48 inches. I measure the treadmill from the ground to the top of the tray, and it measures just below 39 inches.
The remainder of the video shows the packaging and some of the components. For myself, the packaging was pretty large and heavy. If I were to do it again, I would have somebody else help me.
There were two small packages inside with the treadmill and styrofoam. Some of the main components in the smaller packages were the treadmills lubricant, Allen key, locking knobs, multipurpose Phillips screwdriver, safety key, and operators manual.
The final part of the video is looking down at the opened package with the treadmill wrapped in plastic and styrofoam on top.

Pros and Cons: Altrax Folding Treadmill
Purchased in May 2021.
The pros and cons area is going to be updated as time progresses. You'll be able to see the latest date around the Pros and Cons title.
Pros
- The length and width of the running belts give enough room for my legs. I do have a bit of a longer stride, so, the running belt's length is about 48 inches, which is good.
- I don't mind the height of the tray. From the ground to the top, it sits at around 39 inches.
- It's nice having a limited amount of buttons on the display. I can quickly start with ease. I also like how the magnetic safety key needs to be attached before the device starts.
- The compartment for the smartphone or tablet fits my Google pixel phone in the case fine, but it does not fit my Samsung tablet (10.1 inches).
- The LCD screen is bright and easy to read.
- The treadmill's floor has a bit of a bounce which is good for my knees.
- Well, I spilled some juice from the tray to the protective front cover and running/walking belt. I quickly grabbed a damp cloth and gave the tray, protective cover, and running belt a good clean. It's been a couple days and everything is running smooth. The front protective cover did its job. The running belt is also fine. I'll keep an eye on things and update you if I notice anything funny.
Cons
- When I do walk at a higher pace, I find that the tray area shakes a little more than I would like.
- The tray area is very slippery, I'm looking to put some sort of padding or tape on it to make it a little bit more grippy.
- It's not the quickest if I want to fold the treadmill and move it around. I have to unscrew all the locking knobs, take them out, then screw them all back in. There's no quick release.
- The computer display is in miles. I haven't found any way to change it to kilometers. I did read the manual and everything.
- I did notice I get a little static shock from the guard handles, it sources from the bolts underneath. No big deal, but catches me off "guard'," once in a while. Of course, this is subjective. It may not happen to other people.

Updates: Altrax Folding Treadmill
January 17, 2022
So, I had to give the treadmill belt a realignment a while back, and as of the date above, I have not had to readjust the treadmill belt at all. I'm bringing this up because, with my last treadmill, I did have to adjust the belt quite often.
I've also had other family members of all ages (40+ to 80 years old) walking on the treadmill, and the belt has been holding up in the middle.

Hi all, in this video, I go through a basic overview of the treadmill again. I also go into some more of my experiences with it. I purchased it around May 2021.
November 28, 2021
I've noticed that the treadmill is starting to get some wear and tear.
The first thing is the treadmill's running belt sounds like it's dragging on one side.
The other issue is, there is a crack sound towards the right of the treadmill in the middle. I don't think it's broken, but I really don't know.
The other issue is, there is a crack sound towards the right of the treadmill in the middle. I don't think it's broken, but I really don't know.
As for the treadmill belt, in order to "tune it up," I'll have to do some tweaking with the running belts adjustment bolts towards the back. I've done it before with my manual treadmill, and it wasn't easy for me.
So in conclusion, it's just a little bit noisier than it used to be. It is no longer sleek and quiet. No big deal though. I have been walking on the treadmill quite a bit since I bought it.

The treadmill was purchased in May this year, so, about six months before I have to do some tweaking.

Hi all, I recently purchased some new runners for walking on my treadmill. Link below

Hi all, I thought I'd give an update on this treadmill I purchased about three months ago. I'll be focusing on walking on the treadmill, not running.
Just above this update, you'll see the pros and cons, I'm more or less going to be exploring some of them.
When I'm walking at a slow to a brisk pace, the treadmill tray and everything stays put, there's little shaking with the tray.
Unfortunately, the tray area is slippery, and I had to get some sticky grip material and put it on either side. Again, I would not recommend putting any sort of laptop or compact fans on the treadmill.
The treadmills running deck has been working fine. I did do a 21 km virtual walking half marathon on it (just to complete it, not based off my time), and everything held up fine for the whole duration of the half marathon.
The treadmill was consistently on for longer than 5 hours, so, it passed with flying colors. Here is a short video of the walking half marathon I did below.
The reason I did the whole duration of the 21 km walking half marathon on the treadmill, was because of extreme heat and smoky conditions in my area. I gave it a go from 12 am to about 7 am with breaks.

I wouldn't do it again.
The integrity of the treadmill has held up, I have not folded it since I purchased it, it stays stationary in the corner of my home.
I have yet to adjust the running belt itself.

Hi All, I'm currently doing some training for a few walking marathons, not power walking, just focusing on completing. I did notice the treadmill's floor has a bit of a bounce to it, which is great for my knees.
So, In regards to the walking marathon training, I try not to do too much walking on the treadmill because it's an unrealistic surface compared to real-world surfaces such as concrete and trails.

Hi All, I did a quick video looking at the difference between my manual treadmill vs electric treadmill. I'm leaning more to the workout, not the features of the treadmill.
