My Big Mistake Buying a Compact Treadmill (Stairs)

Well, here we are in 2023 with another year down. Let's rewind to 2021 when I purchased my first compact treadmill to increase my good-old walking frequency during the winter months.

I did say winter months and I'll elaborate. I live in Canada, so, the summer months really don't kick in till June, and start cooling down towards the end of October. After that, the snow usually starts to fall making the sidewalks slippery.

Because of the slippery sidewalks, I got a compact treadmill to increase the walk days. And for those curious, I'm on a quest to walk 1,000 walk days. I'm at about 488 walk days as we speak. For the long story check out the "about me," section.

I put the compact treadmill in the living room for the first year, and then I moved it downstairs where it now dwells. The motivation for moving the treadmill downstairs was because of the hot summer months. The move downstairs was ok, but if I were to go back in time, I would use a hand truck instead of trying to DIY everything. I wasn't very safe.

So here's the problem, I put the treadmill downstairs for the cooler basement, and now, in the winter months, the cooler basement is just too cool. The basement also has no light making it dark and gloomy. The upstairs gets great natural light making it awesome to get a walk in.

I thought I would be able to move the treadmill back up the stairs, but that was a mistake. The treadmill was just too heavy. I did go up a few stairs till I just stopped the treadmill party and came back down to reality. I don't know what I was thinking, the treadmill is around 100 lbs.

So what's the solution? Well, at this point I'll need to get a hand truck and get it back up the stairs eventually. I'm also in the market for a smaller style treadmill such as one of those walkpads with no railings, just a walking deck.

The bottom line is, a smaller good quality treadmill is now the must-have for the winter months. The hard part is finding a treadmill that's got a good rep and is small enough to move up and down stairs properly.
